The apostle Mark  writing (God speaking via scripture...The Word), Jesus speaking in a discourse to some apostles about how to tell that the end times are near.

Wycliffe Bible of 1384: And but the Lord hadde abredgide tho daies, al fleische hadde not be saaf; but for the chosun whiche he chees, the Lord hath maad schort the daies.

King James Bible of 1611: And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.

NAS Bible of 1960: Unless the Lord had shortened those days, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days.

NIV Bible 1973-78: If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them.
